As Richardson celebrates its 150-year anniversary, this park has a special historical significance. It was part of a large tract of land owned by early settler Jacob Routh and his family. He and his family came to Texas in covered wagons from eastern Tennessee in the mid-1800s and was one of the earliest pioneer families in what became the town of Richardson. We will enjoy a relaxing morning walk along the paths through the woods of the nature area while noting some of the native trees and early wildflowers. The early bird migration will be starting, and we will hopefully get a glimpse of some of these early travelers on their way to their nesting grounds. We’ll also be stopping from time to time to talk about some of the stories about the Routh family and some of their difficulties as the first European settlers in southern Collin County.
Children 6 and up can attend with an adult. Please park at the street parking off Routh Creek Parkway, we will meet at the corner of Renner and Routh Creek Pkwy by the portal monument.
